Our initial site plan..
In early 2006 work began on the Skylark site. Click on the picture at the left to see our initial site plan. This gallery will chart the progress of the site as work progresses. The Skylark Centre opened as a fully functional facility in November 2007.
This gallery records the initial three months (January to March 2006) of the development of the Skylark Centre.
Threefold Ministries has "broken ground"! Bob Fisher, right, and caretaker Pedro stand beside one of the first small trees to fall as site preparation begins.
Groundbreaking
Everything must be in place and level. One of our contractors directs the placement of the water tower.
Laying out the site
Measure twice, dig once! Layout care is very important and our team is diligent. The contractor is laying out the footer location of our first buildings.

The materials start to arrive.
Every construction site needs a storage shack and ours is no exception. Not to worry our buildings will not look like this!

Site preparation is now well underway. Unlike Ontario where frost penetrates deep into the ground footings do not have to be poured belowe that level. These shallow trenches will eventually hold the footings for our new dormitory.
First dormitory.
Not only must the site be prepared but also the material must be readied. To give strength to the concrete block walls many feet of "rebar" had to be tied together. It did give some of our workers a chance to work in the shade.
Re-bar ready for installation.
Our contractors prepare the trenches for solid footings. Since there is no frost in Nicaragua they do not have to be as deeply set as they do in Canada.

The footings for this dormitory are now complete with the reinforcement in place that will give strength to the concrete block walls.
Footings complete
The full outline of a dormitory can be seen in this picture.

With the footings complete the bricklayers can get to work. The wooden braces ensure that the walls will rise straight and true.
The walls go up
Notice how dry the ground is. Nicaragua is experiencing a dry spell that is taxing the water supply. Our well will be a blessing. A tank for water for mixing mortar can be seen in the upper right of the previous picture.
Dry Spell
What a difference a week makes! Walls grow from footings to over the height of a man.

The main part of the building is well along with the washroom extension awaiting a start to construction.
