Threefold Update April 2010

For several years, our neighbours at Skylark have not had a reliable source of water. This is primarily due to the fact that this Los Medranos community started as a spontaneous development and was not included in the urban development plans for the area. Consequently, only a handful of people living close to the highway have access to the water service, while the majority of the eighty families comprising the community do not have regular access. They are therefore forced to share two public taps. Compounded with this is the fact that water does not run every day, especially during the dry season.

The Los Medranos leaders have been trying to get the water company to hook up a water line from the existing one so all community members can have access to the service. The response from the company has not been helpful, as they state a lack of resources limits their ability to extend the line. Not satisfied with this answer, the Los Medranos leaders recently approached Threefold Ministries to request our help with the cost of materials (pipes, valves, glue, connectors, etc) to extend the line ourselves. We are happy to say that Threefold is stepping out in faith by committing to help the community purchase these needed materials, which will provide water for all our neighbours!

The estimated cost of this project is U$ 4,309.63 and it includes the:

• Installation of 4100 ft of pipe to feed all houses
• Installation of 3 pressure valves to regulate the flow of water
• Digging of trenches along the waterline
• Connection of the pipes and installation of the valves
• Installation of 3 protectors for the valves
• Provision of connectors for every house to the main line
