Discovered as a need in 2012, and initiated in 2013, the Partners in Paramedicine program reaches community members and local firefighters in Nicaragua with contemporary first-response training carried out by professional North American Paramedics. Training takes place at the introductory, and review/advanced levels, drawing the same participants for both over a 6-month period. Teaching focusses on basic patho-physiology, recognizing medical emergencies, and handling various traumas.
Paramedic trainers benefit from a life-changing, cross-cultural experience, achieving a new level of expertise in their ongoing professional development by having the opportunity to satisfy a basic human need: helping another human being in need.
This program, while crossing boarders also bridges communities, which provides a new perspective on Community Paramedicine!
